Can secondhand weed smoke make you fail a drug test?

Via ScienceDaily ยท Science
Myth, unless the room is doing something very strange. Johns Hopkins researchers put non-smokers in a sealed chamber alongside heavy cannabis smoke for an hour with the ventilation fans switched off. Those people felt mildly high and turned up positive on urine tests. Then the team ran the same hour with the fans on. Same smoke, same room, and the ventilated group did not feel high and did not test positive. Lead author Evan Herrmann described the sealed version as a very extreme situation, which is researcher for do not try to recreate this. A normal room, a car with the window cracked, a backyard: none of that is coming for your job.

CBN sleep gummies: new standard or overhyped?

Via The Cannigma ยท Business
The shelf says sleep, and the sales data agrees. CBN sleep products grew 18% in sales and 27% in units, while the number of sleep SKUs on the market went up 25%. The evidence is where it thins out. Most of the supporting research on isolated CBN is still preclinical, which is why the responsible label reads “may help with sleep” and not “improves sleep.” Real demand, early science, premium shelf price. You have either had the best night of your month on one of these, or you have paid extra for a very confident gummy.

Celebrity hemp THC gummies: new standard or overhyped?

Via High Times ยท Business
Three familiar names moved in the same month, and they did not all move the same direction. B-Real took his INSANE line national with a hemp gummy. Comedian Rachel Wolfson launched Lobos. Cann went the other way, releasing its first drinks with zero THC while backing a bill to rewrite the rules. The clock behind all of it is November 12, when federal hemp law starts counting THCA toward total THC and caps finished products at 0.4 milligrams per container. Real money, real names, and a deadline. So what is a celebrity hemp gummy actually worth to you?

Does the indica or sativa label tell you how you will feel?

Via PLOS ONE ยท Science
Short answer: myth, at least as a promise about your evening. A 2015 PLOS ONE study by Sawler and colleagues genotyped 81 marijuana and 43 hemp samples at more than 14,000 markers and found only a moderate match between a strain’s reported indica or sativa ancestry and its actual genetics. Samples labeled sativa were about as similar to indica-labeled samples as they were to each other. The names still tell you something about lineage and market category. What they do not reliably tell you is how a given jar will land, which is why specific reviewed effects beat shelf labels every time. So, myth or fact?

THC drinks at Lollapalooza: new standard or overhyped?

Via Ganjapreneur ยท Business
Lollapalooza has named Seรฑorita its official THC beverage partner, putting hemp-derived THC drinks on the menu at select Grant Park bars for fans 21 and up when the festival runs July 30 to August 2. It is one of the first major US festivals to do it. Backers point to a crowd that wants an option besides beer and a drink that does not leave a hangover. Skeptics see a long line, a heavy price tag, and a lot of people learning about onset time the hard way. Your call.

Is weed actually a gateway drug?

Via NIDA ยท Science
Short answer: mostly myth, and the nuance is the interesting part. The National Institute on Drug Abuse says that while alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis usually come before other substances, the majority of people who use cannabis do not go on to use harder ones. Animal studies suggest early THC exposure can change how the brain responds to other substances. NIDA also notes that other factors, like a person’s social environment, are just as critical to that risk. So the order is real. The causation is the part nobody has nailed down. Myth or fact?
